Mt Washington Auto Road

ELEVATE YOUR EXPERIENCE

You’ll feel as if you’re on top of the world when you ride on the Mt. Washington Auto Road.

You can drive yourself or take the 2-hour or 3-hour guided tours between May and October. The Auto Road is closed to private vehicles during the winter, but a SnowCoach operates from December through March. Experience passing through four distinct climate zones as you ascend the highest peak in the Northeast. If you’re afraid of heights or narrow mountain roads without guardrails, the guided tour is recommended. Give yourself at least 30 minutes to drive up the 7.6 mile road and account for traffic and weather conditions.

Don’t forget your camera! This is definitely the place to get a great bird’s eye view of the 750,000-acre White Mountain National Forest, Vermont, New York, Massachusetts, Maine, Quebec, and possibly even the Atlantic Ocean. The summit reaches 6,288 feet.

Stop in the Sherman Adams Visitor Center for a bite in the cafeteria, a restroom break or browse the gift shops. The Mount Washington Observatory offers an interactive museum dedicated to those weather extremes Mount Washington is so well known for.

History of Christmas Farm Inn Name

The Inn is not 'Christmas themed' but rather received its name from the gifting of the property at Christmas time – renamed the ‘Christmas Farm’ in honor of the season and spirit of the gift.
